Our people

We have 45 unpaid volunteers who produce an edition of the news recording each week.

They broadly divide into these areas:

Editing – Several volunteers perform this task on a rota basis with 2 Editors each week. Various items of interest are cut out from the 2 local papers; the items are stuck onto A4 sheets and they are delivered to the studio in readiness for the weekly recording

Reading – 5 teams of 3 Readers alternate on a rota basis to read / record the news, each week on the Friday afternoon in our studio in Weston-super-Mare

Recording – A team of Recordists take it in turn to record the master memory stick at the weekly recording sessions

Copying – Every Saturday morning, several volunteers perform this task on a rota basis; Teams of 2 copy the master memory stick recording onto the memory sticks which are posted off to the listeners

Player Management – A volunteer will visit new listeners to introduce the service and explain how the player works

Committee – A small number of WTN volunteers, along with 4 of the listeners, administer WTN

WTN is always on the lookout for willing volunteers to help provide this valuable service for our visually impaired listeners. If you are interested in helping us, please send WTN an email, via the Contact Us page, giving us your name, contact phone number and / or email address, and an idea of which area of WTN’s work you are most interested in.
